Teeth Cleaning

Benefits of Professional Teeth Cleaning

We all know that we should brush our teeth every day, but did you know that you should get your teeth cleaned professionally at your dentist too? Here are some benefits to getting teeth cleaning:

Lower risk of dental pain

A professional cleaning ensures that you remove all of the plaque that could generate infection and swelling.

Early Detection
is KEY

Your personal hygienist checks for abnormalities to make sure if anything occurs we can treat it before it becomes worse.

Protect Your
Gum Line

Dental cleaning helps to remove plaque and tartar around the gum line, preventing your gums from receding.

A Chance to Talk to Your Hygienist

If you have questions or concerns about your mouth, you get a chance to ask your hygienist during your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the FAQ we’ve received from our patients. Have additional questions or concerns, call us: 203-883-4433

Sometimes it can be hard to clean the entire surface of your teeth and remove all plaque. Pockets of teeth and gum at the back of the mouth or on the inside, next to the tongue, don’t get a proper scrub, leading to the buildup of bacteria.

During a dental cleaning, your dentist targets these problem areas, removes any plaque or tartar using special cleaning tools, and leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean. The great thing about dental cleaning is that it helps to prevent gum disease and tooth decay by removing more of the plaque and bacteria in your mouth.

How often you get your teeth cleaned per year depends on your particular mouth and circumstances. People who do not have a history of periodontal disease typically have their teeth professionally cleaned twice per year. Those who do have a history of gum infections may want to attend professional cleanings more often.
Dental hygienists use a tool called a scalar to remove plaque and tartar from between your teeth and around your gums. The scaler makes a scraping noise, but that’s just the way the tool works: it’s different from a brush. Sometimes a brush isn’t enough to remove plaque that’s stuck to your mouth, and so dentists must use special tools.
While professional teeth cleaning can help to keep your mouth and gums free from plaque and tartar, you need to take an active role in prevention if you want to stop gum disease and tooth decay. Both brushing and flossing morning and night can help prevent plaque from sticking to the teeth and gums and hardening into tartar.
The answer depends. If your teeth are covered in a thick layer of plaque and tartar, then the answer is yes, your teeth will look whiter. Teeth cleaning removes the gunk and reveals the natural color of your teeth. If, however, your teeth are stained, then this will continue to affect their whiteness. Only whitening treatments can help to make your smile more brilliant.

If you’re searching on Google for “teeth cleaning near me,” you want to know how much it costs. Google will show the average cost of routine cleaning is around $127, but Teeth cleaning prices varies depending on several factors.

If you are worried about cost before getting work done. If you have dental insurance,  it should be covered. Call us and we can let you know what benefits you have. (203) 883-4433

If you do not have insurance there are many financial options to help you, including our amazing In-house House Plan that covers 2 teeth cleanings per year plus more. Call us! (203) 883-4433

Your teeth might look healthy, so how do you know if you need a dental cleaning?

  • Loose teeth. Loose teeth are usually a sign that the bone that holds and the tooth and the surrounding gum have withered away due to infection. Loose teeth, therefore, is a sign that you need regular cleaning to prevent further damage.
  • Bleeding gums. Bleeding gums are one of the first signs of plaque buildup.
  • Bad breath. Bad breath that won’t go away is often a sign of deep-seated infection.
  • Pain when you eat. Bacteria can weaken the structures that hold your teeth in place make chewing painful.
  • Receding gums. Your teeth look longer as bacteria eat away your gums.

My wife had been going to this dentist and I was going to a different dentist. I had never been to her dentist's office. I had to go with her for an emergency with one of her teeth. As soon as I walked in I was impressed. The faculty...the office....the atmosphere are very welcoming. Everyone is super nice. I immediately switched dentists and couldn't be happier. From Paula to Christy to all the Dentists and employees in this office make this place a keeper. I'll be a patient for the rest of my life.

I was referred to Dental Care Stamford by my girlfriend and it was the best decision I have made in awhile. Mimi helped me along the way with everything I needed to do get me on track of a healthy mouth. I don't have insurance so having a couple options made me feel comfortable in deciding a plan that best fits me. The whole staff made feel at home and welcomed me with open arms. I also like that they are very flexible with scheduling which was very important today. I would recommend 10/10

A few weeks ago, I had an emergency and had to call for an appointment. I was experiencing so much pain. Given my circumstances, I was not able to go to the dentist in over 10 years. I was immediately scheduled to meet with Dr. Simon, who showed a genuine concern for my dental health. I felt very safe and relieved to have a dentist who really wanted to help.During my initial visit, I found out that I had all these other complications. However, Paula, a treatment coordinator at the practice, had helped me so much in creating a plan that really worked for me. She would walk me through all my procedures and would check in with me whenever I visited, even when we were not scheduled to meet. She has ALWAYS looked out for me.Joanne, one of the hygienists at the practice, was very thorough and patient with me. She also cracks me up.The folks at the front desk, as well as all the dental assistants, were very courteous, patient, kind, and funny. I left every appointment feeling so much better.Everyone made me feel comfortable and welcome. I definitely recommend this practice to anyone who is looking for a great dental care experience.
