Braces can either be fixed on the teeth or they can be removable. The removable type of braces usually are for more minor tooth movement so most orthodontic work is done with non-removable braces. If the orthodontist makes a removable appliance for you, you must still wear it almost all the time, except when eating, in order for it to create the tooth movement you want. Taking it in and out frequently lets the teeth move back and it will take a much longer time to get the results you want.
A typical orthodontic case takes around two years but can vary considerably due to the specifics of the individual case. Sometimes young children are treated in two stages, for example, with one to several years in between.
Braces can be used for both adults and children. Typically most orthodontists have 30% to 50% of the patients as adults.
In the past, many patients had some permanent teeth removed in the process of braces. Now, modern orthodontic treatment prefers to keep all of the permanent teeth unless there is severe crowding and there is just no room for all of the teeth.
Braces do not cause white spots on the teeth. White spots are due to the person having braces on their teeth and not properly cleaning their teeth.
Braces do not cause decay. Too much sugar and plaque accumulation cause decay. However, braces make it a lot harder to effectively clean your teeth. As a result, we recommend adults and children with braces get their teeth cleaned every three months, use a Water Pik or Hydrofloss irrigator to assist in home care and prescription strength home fluoride daily.
The objective of braces is to move teeth into a position where the bite is good, the smile looks great and the teeth are stable so they won’t shift back. Sometimes this is not done and long-term retainers need to be used or the teeth will tend to shift.
There is no easy way to keep teeth clean with braces. We recommend that anyone with braces come for professional cleanings every 3 months, and in addition to a special Prodentec tooth-brush, use a Hydrofloss irrigator.

I need to give a shout out to 3 amazing people that helped me through an extraction of my Molar. Dr Rools was the man. A beast! He calmly got that dam tooth out with a great bed side manner. But he didn’t do it alone… there was dear ‘ole Nelly that provided confidence that all will be ok.. especially the nitrous oxide! Amazing. Lastly there was Mimi.. she was awesome. She stood by my side and even held my hand when they were literally jack hammering my tooth. If felt like a rock quarry in my mouth. But I couldn’t have asked for a better 3 person crew. I hope you never need a tooth extraction .. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy ..( maybe ). But If you do then make sure it’s these 3 superstars ! J

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed here this morning and I don’t think it would’ve been possible for me to have a better, more comfortable, and nerve-free removal. The front desk team was welcoming and checked me in quickly. Eileen, who walked me to the room and assisted me after surgery was amazing and answered all follow up questions thoroughly ranging from when to take the medication I was prescribed to post-op bleeding and everything in between. Cledin and Estafania, whom assisted Dr. Cohen during the procedure, were also amazing. They ensured I was comfortable while the teeth were being extracted and assisted me with all my needs whilst in the room. Finally, I owe a huge thank you to Dr. Cohen. I was expecting a very slow and painful process. It was quite literally the opposite. I didn’t even realize he extracted two of my teeth and for the other two I felt only mild pressure. Nothing unbearable in the slightest. His instructions were clear and the operation was completed quickly yet very thoroughly. I am now five hours post-op and feel great. I couldn’t recommend this place enough for this type of procedure especially for those with fears of the dentist.

Honestly, this dental office saved my teeth. I was in a lot of pain and they were the only ones who were willing to accommodate me. I walked in and everything was a breeze. They literally hold your hand every step of the way. When I got my x-rays done, I honestly didn’t really realize the condition of my teeth. Dr Roth assured me that I came in at the right time and I was in good hands. Both him and his assistant Daniella, fit me into their schedule and worked to get me out of pain right away. He told me the things I need to get done but gave me a timeline keeping in mind the financial aspect of it. Call this practice if you need anything done regarding your teeth. They will put your mind right at ease.

My wife had been going to this dentist and I was going to a different dentist. I had never been to her dentist's office. I had to go with her for an emergency with one of her teeth. I was referred to Dental Care Stamford by my girlfriend and it was the best decision I have made in awhile. Mimi helped me along the way with everything I needed to do get me on track of a healthy mouth. I don't have insurance so having a couple options made me feel comfortable in deciding a plan that best fits me. The whole staff made feel at home and welcomed me with open arms. A few weeks ago, I had an emergency and had to call for an appointment. I was experiencing so much pain. Given my circumstances, I was not able to go to the dentist in over 10 years. I was immediately scheduled to meet with Dr. Simon, who showed a genuine concern for my dental health. I felt very safe and relieved to have a dentist who really wanted to help.During my initial visit, I found out that I had all these other complications. However, Paula, a treatment coordinator at the practice, had helped me so much in creating a plan that really worked for me. She would walk me through all my procedures and would check in with me whenever I visited, even when we were not scheduled to meet. She has ALWAYS looked out for me.Joanne, one of the hygienists at the practice, was very thorough and patient with me. She also cracks me up.The folks at the front desk, as well as all the dental assistants, were very courteous, patient, kind, and funny. I left every appointment feeling so much better.Everyone made me feel comfortable and welcome. I definitely recommend this practice to anyone who is looking for a great dental care experience.
